COACHING EXCELLENCE 

THE ROAD TO EXCELLENCE TAKES TWO: 
THE PROCESS
AND THE PLAYERS

THE PROCESS: 

We have designed the coaching process of Gateways to Leadership™ to achieve relevant on the job goals and behaviors.  Employees with motivation to grow and advance commit upfront to do the work.  Their boss commits to support them.   

The coach facilitates the dialogue to set the goals.  The participant and his / her boss agree to three goals.  These goals are related to the job.  They contribute to the department and the organization.  They are actually related to the core competencies that the organization wants to develop throughout the workforce. Nothing irrelevant enters the focus area. 

The 12 weekly sessions are for planning, discussion, learning review, planning new approaches, and stimulating discussion about new options.  Specific, specific, specific.  Behavioral logs provide the fuel and contents for these discussions.  All the learning from successes and failures relates not to academic classroom learning, but to real life, on the job actions. 

The Group meetings with all the participants become a lab for practicing skills and discussion of several approaches to handle the cases.  The facilitator creates a learning community of people with similar challenges.  They learn from each other and they field thought-provoking questions from the facilitator and other members of the group. 

The internal sponsor can be someone from Human Resources, Learning and Development, or other appropriate department.  The internal sponsor assesses the effectiveness of the process, reviews the metrics of improvement as scored by the participants' boss.  He / she also continues to promote the program and register new participants, as the new sessions come up. 

Gateways to Leadership™ is a tested and proven process because it contains all the ingredients of success:  Committed participants, supportive bosses, specific job-relevant and measurable goals for improvement, empowering coaching, and review of specific actions as well as new commitments for the following week.    

THE PLAYERS:  OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH FIRST TIER INDEPENDENT CONSULTANTS 

Above all Gateways to Leadership™ takes good Coaches.  Our coaches are carefully selected from the best the independent consulting field has to offer.  They are trained and certified to facilitate our programs.  Once they have been certified, the independent consultants become our Partners in Excellence.  We hold frequent meetings, under the facilitation of our VP, Dr. Tamara Goldstein.  In the Partners in Excellence meetings, all of us learn from each other.  We become sounding boards to each other.  We problem solve situations where the coaching process needs revisiting.  We brainstorm options for the coach to take.  We find ways to learn from each other's successes and challenges.  We share new learning, cutting edge readings, and new findings.

This is the spirit of the Partners in Excellence!
